1874 Century Association Reports

A member of a family from the business elite of New York City, he was originally in the wholesale grocery trade, then branched out into clothing and teas. He was a patron of the arts: Asher Durand’s painting Dance on the Battery, inspired by Washington Irving’s work, was produced for him.
