A long and happy life and a long, successful career were the lot of Dr. Gorham Bacon. A graduate of Bellevue in 1878, he was for more than a generation a leading ear specialist of the city. He served as surgeon of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary for thirty-seven years and as Professor of Otology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons for twenty-one years. He was associated also with the New York Orthopaedic Hospital and Cornell Medical College. His manual of Otology, published in 1898, was widely used, running through several editions. The presidency of the New York and American Otological Societies came to him, among other honors. A score of years ago he retired from active life and passed the rest of his years in the peaceful old town of Yarmouthport on Cape Cod. To younger Centurions but little known, he was for decades a familiar figure of the club-house, a frequent attendant at the long table in the dining-room, rich in friendships both within his profession and outside it.
