Charles Alexander Macy was a descendant of the well known Quaker family originating among the earliest settlers of Nantucket, which has contributed to New York bankers and merchants distinguished for integrity, intelligence, and philanthropy. Mr. Macy was one of the founders of the old firm of stationers, Corlies, Macy, & Company. Later he established the banking house of Macy Brothers & Herbert. In his quiet manner, gentle disposition, and sincere and simple character, he preserved the best traditions of the ancestry that was in practice as in name a Society of Friends.
