Century Memorial

The trait most conspicuous in Charles Ogden was not so much his rare and peculiar wit, as the thorough breeding that held it always under control. No one of us remembers to have seen another hurt by the edge of that wit which so often surprised and charmed us with its keenness. His own sensitivities bred in him a punctilious care for others’ feelings; and the literary reputation he might easily have won as a satirist would have been unwelcome to his refined, quiet, and friendly nature.
