[George Palen] ranked among the oldest members of the Club, and for twenty-six years [sic: twenty-three] had been interested in its objects, and active in its councils. Although reluctant to hold any of its offices, he did efficient service as one of that solid substantial group of members, always depended on to maintain its traditions, always consulted upon important questions affecting its management.
