Century Memorial

William Augustus Pierrepont was the son of our old member, Henry E. Pierrepont, of Brooklyn, a nephew of John [Clarkson] Jay, and a great grandson of the first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. He was a graduate of Columbia College and Law School, and was admitted to the bar in 1876. His tastes, however, turned to the study of medicine, and he took his degree of M.D. from the University of the City of New York in 1882. He was for some years Resident Physician of the Brooklyn Hospital, and afterwards practised in this city. For a number of years before his death he had spent most of his time in travel. He was of a modestly generous nature, never so happy as when he could be of service to others, and peculiarly considerate of all, however humble, who had any claim upon him.
