Century Memorial

The serene temperament with which Judge Francis Markoe Scott approached the legal controversies which came before him, during his twenty years of service in the higher state court, fitted him admirably for his judicial duties. Working without friction, he had a singular clarity of mind and lucidity of expression. Master of one of the most intricate branches of the law, that which pertains to trusts, he never allowed himself to be needlessly enmeshed by the technicalities of procedure. On the personal side he was cordial, frank and sympathetic; his attitude towards life was kindly and his quiet humor made him extraordinarily companionable. With his brother judges and with members of the bar he had many warm friendships, as he had in the Century membership.
