Century Memorial

Archibald W. Speir had a life-long association with The Century. His father, Judge [Gilbert M.] Speir, was elected in 1849, three years after the beginning, and the son’s name was on the list of resident members for forty-two years. Mr. Speir retired from the active practice of his profession, the law, many years before his death. His varied interests led him to membership in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural Science, and in many other organizations and societies.
