Century Memorial

The work of Frank Austin Carle in the writing of editorial “leaders” shifted in a forty-year professional career from the Middle West to the Pacific Coast, thence to the Atlantic and back again to the Middle West. In the city he was chief editorial writer on the Globe during the four years ending with 1901. Not perhaps in the class of brilliant editors, Carle nevertheless belonged to the old-time type of vigorous and trenchant leader-writers whose background of information on political and social questions made possible the framing of clear and immediate judgment on each day’s news developments.
