Century Memorial
One of the old-time New York bankers, whose active responsibilities in that field, in his Stock Exchange house of Clark, Dodge & Company, dated back to the seventies, George Crawford Clark was a man of forceful but at the same time whimsical and lovable personality. His Century associates were of the older generation, notably Choate and Hopkinson Smith. Sparing in his conversation yet not taciturn, what he had to say was always to the point, and was brightened often by quaint aphorisms of his own. Mr. Clark was a man of generous impulses, on which he rarely failed to act in a spirit both liberal and discriminating. In his own profession he was recognized during many years as a clear-sighted banker and a safe financial adviser, and the interests which were entrusted to him were often of very great importance.
