Charles W. Clinton came of the family made famous by General James Clinton and Governor DeWitt Clinton. He spent his life in New York City where he was born and educated. He was the oldest member of the American Institute of Architects and at one time its Vice-President. None among the senior members of his profession held a higher place than he, and many buildings are monuments of his taste and skill. He was clear in his ideas and determined in his search for facts. As a friend he was very sincere and widely acceptable, steadfastness and unhesitating loyalty being the fundamental characteristics of his nature.
