Egerton Leigh Winthrop, descended from Governor Winthrop of Massachusetts, and yet one of our most veritable and respected New Yorkers. His lineage included Stuyvesants and other Knickerbocker families, and he was himself president of the Knickerbocker Club. He became a member of this Association in 1870.
